Before, During and After

Your dentist walks you through every step before you decide.

  1. BeforeExam, X-rays and a 3-D CT scan if needed. Your dentist explains which teeth and why. Choose sedation if you'd like.
  2. DuringThe area is numbed. The teeth are gently removed. Gauze helps a clot form.
  3. AfterRest for the rest of the day. Swelling peaks in the first days, then eases. A follow-up if you need one.

Common Questions About Wisdom Teeth

Do you remove wisdom teeth at every office?

Yes. Our dentists remove wisdom teeth at all 4 offices: Hollywood Park, Leon Springs, Potranco and Pleasanton.

Can you remove impacted wisdom teeth?

Yes. Your dentist plans the removal with X-rays and, when needed, a 3-D CT scan, which every office has. If a case is unusual, your dentist will tell you before anything is done.

Is sedation available?

Yes. The area is always numbed, and sedation is available to help you relax. Ask which option fits you when you book.

How do I know if my wisdom teeth need to come out?

Common signs are pain or swelling at the back of the mouth, gums that bleed around a partly grown tooth, or crowding. Some need removal with no symptoms at all, so an exam and X-rays are the way to know.

How long is recovery?

Most people rest for a day or two and feel much better within a few days, while the gums keep healing over the next weeks. Your dentist gives you care instructions before you leave.

How much does wisdom teeth removal cost?

It depends on how many teeth, whether they are impacted and whether you choose sedation. After your exam we explain the cost up front. We're in-network with many insurance plans, and patients without insurance can use our Membership Club or CareCredit.

Is 25 too old to have wisdom teeth removed?

No. Adults of any age can have wisdom teeth removed. Your dentist checks whether they are causing problems or could. Call us if you have pain or swelling at the back of your mouth.

What is a dry socket and what are its symptoms?

Dry socket happens when the blood clot in the empty socket is lost too early. The main sign is pain that gets worse a few days after removal instead of better. Call the office right away if that happens.

Is wisdom tooth pain an emergency?

Pain that won't go away, swelling or trouble opening your mouth is worth a call. We see dental emergencies the same day, so call the office nearest you and tell us it's an emergency. If you have trouble breathing or swallowing, go to the ER.
