Common Questions About Teeth Cleanings

How often should I get my teeth cleaned?

Most people do well with a cleaning and exam every six months. If you have gum disease or other concerns, your dentist may recommend visits more often.

Does a dental cleaning hurt?

Most patients feel little or no discomfort during a cleaning. If your teeth or gums are sensitive, let your hygienist know. If you feel anxious about dental visits, ask about our sedation options.

What happens during a teeth cleaning?

X-rays show what's happening below the surface. Your hygienist removes plaque and tartar and polishes your teeth, then your dentist checks your teeth, gums and bite for cavities and gum disease.

How much does a teeth cleaning cost?

New patients can get an exam, a cleaning and the X-rays they need for $179, with no periodontal therapy. With insurance, we'll check your benefits for you. Without insurance, ask about our Membership Club.

Is a teeth cleaning painful?

Most patients feel little or no discomfort. A topical anesthetic keeps you comfortable, and sedation is available if you're anxious. Tell your hygienist if anything is sensitive.

Should I brush my teeth after a cleaning?

Yes, keep brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and flossing. Follow any advice your hygienist gives you.

Which teeth usually get cavities first?

Back teeth often do, because their grooves trap food and are harder to reach. A cleaning and exam catch small problems early. Ask about sealants or fluoride if you get cavities often.

Do you remind me when my next cleaning is due?

Yes. We set up your next cleaning before you leave and send reminders about a week and a couple of days before.
