I have been going to the staff at Hometown Dentistry for several years and they have always been friendly and professional. I will continue getting my dental work at this location in the future.
As the years pass, our bodies evolve, and our dental needs shift alongside them. It’s crucial not to let your oral health fall by the wayside during this time of your life. While growing in age may increase certain dental risks, there are proactive steps you can take to maintain good oral health. We wanted to share a few key strategies for you to keep in mind:
Make dental check-ups a non-negotiable part of your health routine. Aim for bi-annual visits, but be prepared to increase frequency if specific concerns arise. For instance, gum disease might necessitate more frequent cleanings. These appointments are your first line of defense, allowing for early detection and swift intervention of potential issues.
During these visits, don’t hesitate to discuss any changes you’ve noticed in your oral health. Whether it’s increased sensitivity, dry mouth, or changes in the appearance of your gums or teeth, your dentist can provide valuable insights and tailored solutions.
Focus on improving your at-home oral care routine. Commit to thorough brushing twice daily using a soft-bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste. Make you cover all tooth surfaces during your two-minute sessions. Don’t forget to refresh your toothbrush every few months. Complement brushing with daily flossing to target those hard-to-reach areas between teeth and along the gumline.
If manual dexterity becomes challenging, explore alternative tools like water flossers or interdental brushes. Electric toothbrushes can provide more efficient cleaning with less physical effort. Remember, adjusting to different tools doesn’t mean you are compromising on care quality.
Your diet plays a pivotal role in oral health. Minimize consumption of sugary foods and drinks that fuel cavity-causing bacteria. Make water your beverage of choice to help rinse away food particles and bacteria. As you age, dry mouth becomes a more common concern, making hydration even more critical.
Incorporate tooth-friendly foods into your diet, such as crisp fruits and vegetables, which naturally clean teeth as you chew. If you struggle with biting and chewing capabilities, talk to your dentist about your teeth replacement options. You can also chop up and cook veggies and fruits to make them easier to chew. Calcium-rich foods like dairy products, leafy greens, and fortified plant-based alternatives support strong teeth and bones.
If you are missing teeth, don’t wait to replace them. Gaps in your smile can lead to a cascade of issues, including alignment problems and jawbone weakening. This can cause you to alter your eating habits, reducing the nutrition you have in your diet. Explore tooth replacement options with your dentist, from single-tooth solutions to full-mouth restorations.
Dental implants offer a particularly lifelike alternative, replacing both the visible crown (with the restoration) and the root structure beneath (with the implant). Remember, each tooth plays a crucial role in maintaining the overall structure of your mouth. Preserving this structure becomes increasingly important as you age to maintain proper chewing function and facial aesthetics.
Pay close attention to your gum health, especially any signs of recession. Exposed tooth roots can lead to increased sensitivity and vulnerability to decay. If you notice your gums pulling back, consult your dentist about your gum health. It may be a sign of gum disease and your dentist can perform a deep cleaning that restores your gum health.
Remember, gum health is linked to overall health, particularly as we age. Research has shown connections between gum disease and conditions like heart disease and diabetes. Prioritizing gum health is an investment in your whole-body wellness.
By implementing these strategies, you’re investing in a future filled with confident smiles. Remember, it’s never too late to prioritize your dental care and maintain good oral health. Your teeth and gums will thank you for years to come. Embrace this chapter of life with a healthy, radiant smile that reflects the wisdom and vitality within.

Monty is the best .
I travel across san antonio to go here!
Montsy was by far the most thorough dental hygienist I’ve ever seen. My teeth have never felt this clean — she took her time, was super gentle, and didn’t miss a single detail. On top of that, she answered all my questions with patience and care, especially around a few issues I’ve been concerned about. She explained everything clearly and gave me honest reassurance without brushing anything off. I really appreciated how knowledgeable and attentive she was. If you’re looking for someone who goes above and beyond, ask for Montsy — she’s amazing. Montsy was by far the most thorough dental hygienist I’ve ever seen. This was my first visit and everyone was very friendly and thorough! I would highly recommend them for all your dental needs or concerns.
We have always felt in good hands here. My family has been in Montsy’s care for 10 years now, we followed her to this practice. I met Dr. Parra yesterday, and it was as if he’s been my dentist the entire time. The transition was seamless. It was neat to read he started as a Registered Dental Hygienist. I am always greeted and checked out with warm, friendly salutations. We are in good hands here. Thank you!
Great dentist and staff. Caring, pleasant and efficient!
Had new hygienist & dentist. They were both professional & took time to explain treatment.
Professional and Positive. ...wonderful service, wonderful people!!
Very good dental hygienist, fast thorough and professional. Dr Tri very nice too
Very nice and explained treatment plan professionally
Kind, courteous, knowledgeable staff. A very pleasant experience. Thank you.
Very accommodating and caring.
Staff are always friendly and on top of issues and willing to collaborate with you on times that work best for you. I have been coming here for years and always hated the dentist before coming here. Montsy for teeth cleaning is the sweetest person and I call her a friend also. All staff are wonderful.
Great care!
Staff is very courteous. The dental hygienist always does a great job and is very gentle and thorough. I have always had a positive experience.
Excellent experience. The entire staff is friendly, compassionate, informative and accommodating !!!! I would highly recommend this dental facility to anyone !!!
Had my teeth cleaned and had an exam by the new dentist here, Dr Parra. He quickly identified a serious problem with one of my teeth and suggested a crown to address it. I will follow up in 2 weeks to have the work done.
I had been seeing Dr. Erin McLendon and Dental Hygienist Pam for over ten years and I highly recommended their dental practice. Both ladies and their entire team are professional, personable and approachable when I have questions about my teeth, oral hygiene and their services. She sold her practice to My Hometown Dentist in Hollywood Park. Both Dr. Erin and Pam are no longer available. My new dentist Dr. Tri Nguyen is very nice and highly competent. He discovered I had an infection and sent a referral to a Endodontics clinic. The last office visit visit did not go smoothly. D. Hygienist Rosalinda was very nice and professional but her dental tools were not working. The ultrasound wand and XR tool needed charging or repair. I sat in her chair for over an hour to get all the scans / cleanings finally working and completed. The visit was disappointing but I feel confident the next appointment in June will go smoother. Thanks to My Hometown Dentist for their professionalism in the face of diversity!
They make you feel very comfortable from the time you walk in till you are done with your appointment. Thank you
Shout out to Montsy... She always cleans my teeth great! Love this dental office
So far ok
Worked me in for an emergency. Was well taken care of.
My hygienist (Montsy) is great!
Highly recommend it !!
I enjoy going to Hometown Dentist because they are friendly and I feel that they care about me. They give me good advice for taking care of my teeth. My dental hygienist is excellent. She makes me feel comfortable and checks on me as she is doing the cleaning. The dentists are very knowledgeable and professional. It is easy to make appointments and they send timely reminders. There is very little wait time when I arrive. I highly recommend their practice.
First time in and all went well. Very professional and prompt. Dr. Parra was able to locate the issue. Unfortunately I had to be referred for a root canal.
Very polite and gentle on my teeth. I enjoyed my visit.
I was happy with the care given me!
Very thorough treatment and quality care. Their in-house discounted payment plan is very helpful.
Had a deep cleaning. Very professionally done with great care. Very competent staff and friendly receptionist.
Everything went well from cleaning to procedure with Dr next day He is very kind and knows his work Pleasantly surprised with everyone new in entire office Will be back for future procedures
Good group of folks. Took me in on time, were friendly, cheerful and efficient. Montsy is an awesome hygienist, and Dr Nguyen is humble, friendly and professional. This is a great place! Highly recommended.
Dr Try Nguyen was very kind and compassionate. He seems quite knowledgeable & I needed a new retainer made since wearing Dandy clear aligners last year & the retainer I got from a previous dentist at his office didn’t fit properly (thus the 4 stars & not 5) Theresa is always the best.
Super clean facility, great staff…we will be back!
Excellent service. Great staff. Friendly.
This was an emergency visit, and they fit me in, and were helpful and kind in the midst of pain. They are my regular dentist as well, and I do recommend them for their courteous and professional manner.
So thankful they got me in the next morning after I called with severe toothache. Everyone was very kind and professional. The dentist worked carefully and thoroughly to solve my problem. I will definitely be going back!
Friendly, honest, and professional.
Outstanding staff. Very professional and knowledgeable.
I made an appointment for pain and discomfort, within 15 minutes of the appointment the problem was identified and a plan of treatment was offered (wisdom tooth removal) within another 15 minuets, they started the procedure and not only was it painless, but quick! Maybe 10 minuets itself. I was home an hour after my appointment started. All questions and concerns (I’m 20 weeks pregnant) were answered and I wasn’t unsure about moving forward with the removal. I’m sure I’ll be back for future appointments.
Great customer service! Kind staff!
The My Hometown Dentist team is both efficient and kind. They know me and what my needs are and they are the only dentist office I wish to work with at this time.
Erin McClendon and her staff really have it going on.Good care great people. I strongly recommend her practice!!
Love that the DDS checked me before cleaning so he can really tell me if he sees I’m not cleaning enough! Montzi (so?) did great job and quickly - that’s the best part because my jaw gets tired of being open.
I absolutely hate going to the dentist! However, Hometown Dentist has always treated me with much care and patience. I’m nearly 70 and my teeth are in wonderful shape, thanks to their care for over 15 years! I highly recommend their practice!
Very professional. Took extra time to explain procedure. Very personable and on time!
I actually love coming here! I’m usually not a fan of the dentist, like a lot of people. But since my first appt here, Montse (my hygienist) is seriously so sweet and personable and always goes above and beyond to make sure i’m comfortable. I also got the chance to meet Dr. Nguyen and he is professional and courteous and answered all my questions. Would definitely recommend this dentist office!
Excellent dentists and staff at My Hometown Dentist! They are top notch professionals and deliver great results. They’re caring, gentle and very conscientious practitioners. Highly recommend!
Everyone is polite and does everything possible to make sure you do not dislike going to your dentist.
I was very pleased to have met my new Dentist, Dr Nguyen , at Hometown . He is a young , experienced, & welcomed me as his patient . I would highly recommend their services . Also his staff is friendly & caring .
Great practice and staff. Always looking at the latest tech and processes to provide great and convenient service.
Great
very personable and attentive staff. always greeted with a smile at the door, and they’ve done wonders for my teeth
They don't just go after fillings and such here. They mentioned I had a couple of spots that could be filled but that with fluoride and proper care would fill back in.
