Rely on the Experts for Help During a Dental Emergency

No matter what type of urgent situation you come in with, we can help. Our dentists have extensive experience in eliminating our patients’ pain and getting their smiles back on track to looking great again. Here are a few treatments we use to treat dental disasters:

  • Tooth-Colored Filling – To stop the pain of a cavity, we’ll prepare the affected area of your tooth, then place a natural-looking, metal-free filling to repair the damage. It will blend in naturally with the rest of your smile.
  • Root Canal – This beneficial treatment will  stop your toothache, not cause you more pain like many people believe. We’ll remove the diseased inner part of your tooth, then seal the tooth in preparation for a new crown.
  • Tooth Extraction – If we’re unable to save your damaged tooth with a filling, a root canal, or a crown, we’ll gently remove it to eliminate your pain and protect your healthy teeth and gums.
  • Wisdom Teeth Removal – Wisdom teeth can cause real problems if they become impacted under your gums, including pain and damage to your other teeth. We can handle most cases of wisdom teeth extraction right here in our office.
  • TMJ Treatment – It’s hard to relax when your jaw hurts every time you open or close it to talk, laugh, or chew. We’ll make a custom oral appliance that relieves tension on your jaw joints so you feel better soon.

Know What to Do for a Dental Crisis

Our pro dental team can handle practically any emergency using our skills and experience. Below are some common dental emergencies and the proper steps to take until you can be seen in our office.

  • Toothache – It’s important to call us ASAP if you have a toothache, as it could be a sign of something serious. Rinse your mouth out with warm water, then apply ice to your cheek, and take an over-the-counter pain reliever to help with discomfort and swelling.
  • Loose Tooth – Try to keep from wiggling the tooth  to prevent it from becoming more loose. You can use ibuprofen or acetaminophen to help reduce pain while you’re waiting to be seen.
  • Knocked-Out Tooth – Being careful not to touch the roots of the tooth, retrieve the tooth by the crown (white part) and place it in a container of milk or salt water. Bring it with you to your appointment. Try to see us ASAP, ideally within 30 minutes.
  • Broken or Loose Dental Appliance – If your appliance has come off, try to reattach it using dental cement or even a little bit of toothpaste. You can use dental wax to cover any wires or edges that may irritate the inside of your mouth.

Common Questions About Dental Emergencies

Over the years, we have helped thousands of patients to feel better and have more beautiful smiles. Our extensive experience means we have the skills and expertise your family needs for any type of emergency dental situation. We would be glad to help you or your loved one through an emergency.

What can you do for my dental emergency?

When you come to us for your emergency, you can expect quick, skilled treatment to get your smile back in shape soon. Our first priority will be to stop your dental pain so you can relax. We’ll perform an emergency exam and possibly take X-rays to determine what is causing your pain and what needs to be done to correct it. We’ll always give you options whenever possible.

Can I prevent dental emergencies?

No one can anticipate every possible dental emergency, but you can take steps to reduce your odds of having such a problem. Following ADA recommendations – brushing and flossing daily and getting regular dental cleanings – reduces your risk of tooth infections and gum disease. Wearing athletic mouthguards during sports can protect your teeth from injuries.
